Even Goldman Sachs Likes TickerHound

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 | Wayne Mulligan

I think TickerHound members are getting smarter by the day...

I had a friend (a big time trader at Goldman Sachs) call me up personally this week to tell me how impressed he was with the depth of both questions and answers that were on the site.

I told him that I wish I could take credit for it, but at the end of the day the credit should really be going to the TickerHound members.

In fact, I saw a number of new TickerHounds on the site that have really blown me away with how quickly they’ve gotten involved in the community and have shown a real passion for educating other investors.  I’m sure these folks have plenty of other things to do with their day, but their ability to set aside some time to help other investors is what this site is all about!

Having a passion for something is fun, but seeing that other people out there have the same passion is truly inspiring.  So I think these people deserve an honorable mention for the week – I’ve also taken the liberty of including them in the Top TickerHounds list in our weekly newsletter.  Congratulations guys!

Oldman – He’s answered over 15 questions from other TickerHounds and hasn’t asked a single one in return.  Here’s a guy who’s all about educating and empowering other investors – truly impressive!

Dragonsbane  – Again, another TickerHound who answers questions without expecting anything in return.  His answers aren’t just accurate but extremely thoughtful as well – check out this question (he received the “Best Answer” for this one) where Dragonsbane talks about how to “play” Gold now that the equities markets have been taking it on the chin.  Click here to see the answer now!

IFly – Here’s another rising star on TickerHound.  I think last week’s Top TickerHound members would even agree especially since ChaosNantuko chose IFly’s answer as the “Best” for one of his most recent questions – check it out by clicking here.

Here are some links to my favorite Q&A’s for the week – I’d love it if for next week you could send in some suggestions for your favorite Q&A’s.  You can either e-mail them into us at feedback@tickerhound.com or visit our blog at blog.tickerhound.com.

I’d really like to hear what you think.

Remember, you can either e-mail us at feedback@tickerhound.com or post a comment on our blog with links to your favorite Q&A’s... Can’t wait to hear back from you!

TickerHound Challenge Winners

Last week was the kick-off of our first official TickerHound Challenge.  The answers have been submitted, reviewed, and the BEST have been selected.

The winners for last week’s (click here to see the questions) TickerHound challenge are:

EthanR – If you've gone to the Tycoon Report web site over the last few months, you'll definitely recognize Ethan.  Aside from being a major contributor to The Tycoon Report (see above article), Ethan has also become a virtual "guru" on TickerHound.  Congrats Ethan!

ChaosNantuko – I won't provide details but I'd be willing to be Mr. Nantuko is one of the (if not THE) youngest member of the TickerHound community.  He's also one of the brightest and most giving with his time and knowledge.  Amazing job, once again!

Oldman – Welcome aboard “Oldman”, I’m sure your years of experience will be a huge benefit to everybody in the TickerHound community!

That was last week, now let’s talk about this week…

Here are this week’s TickerHound Challenge Questions – again, the winners will receive 50 EXTRA points and a chance to become a Top TickerHound next week.

So let's see what the Tycoon Report readers are made of.  We already have a few responses to these questions, so make sure you get your answer in before Saturday!

1.    What will the hottest sectors be in 2008 and why?

2.    What economic indicators will you be watching in January and why?

3.    Will Ford be able to turn the corner this coming year?

Good luck!

And a Happy New Year From ME to YOU
